Story of the changemaker
India is a country that has seen high dropout rates and the pandemic in the last two years has only made things worse. The subsequent lockdowns in the country brought to the fore how the digital divide can be one of the biggest challenges of these times.
Millions of children especially from the underprivileged sections of society have been deprived of education during the pandemic and even before. Established in January 2010, SANKALP works to ameliorate poverty and help children from the lower rungs of our society get an education. SANKALP concentrates on providing free tuition facilities to 10,000+ unprivileged children so that they gain the power of knowledge and strength of education with the passage of time. Presently SANKALP runs schooling education through its 200 centers.
SANKALP wants to change the lives of children through education
Education alone is the power that can redeem the poor from their poverty – not only in terms of earning a livelihood but also becoming aware of the rights and freedoms that a citizen is endowed with, thus SANKALP believes empowering them through education makes them independent.
“The plight of the children is just heartbreaking. They live in a vicious cycle - of poverty and joblessness and we at SANKALP believe that only proper education can uplift them in the truest sense of the word,” - Parimal Sinha, Founder, SANKALP.
SANKALP focuses on rural India because that is where the root causes of the problem lies. They have provided education to more than 10,000 children across Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand. A lot of them have grown up to teach with the organization, or even find jobs in various sectors.

“The question we often get asked is if a small amount of contribution will make any difference to a problem that is so huge. And each time, we say the same thing - it most certainly does. A small amount goes a long way. Taken together, it is these seemingly small contributions that collectively add up to a large amount needed to effect change.”
