20 years ago when young Hussain came to Pune from Darbhanga, Bihar, looking for a job, he had no idea what lay before him. He was lost and scared and had no choice but to live on the roads of Pune.
“That was when I met this salesman who sold ballpoint pens in schools, colleges, and offices. He asked me to tag along and soon I too, was selling pens. During the weekends, I would visit hospitals and would come across so many people who were too poor to afford a single meal. Most of them had no family or anyone to take care of them. I would find myself sharing money from my pockets with these unfortunate people. It was something that came very naturally to me,” - M.A. Hussain, Founder, of Real Life Real People NGO.

Hussain was a topper in his 10th board exams in his taluka but his poor parents couldn’t afford to send him to school any further. He started working early on but never gave up the hope of serving those in need.
“Poverty stops us from doing many things but being kind is not one of them! After I saw the plight of the poor and the homeless in the streets and hospitals of Pune, I knew I had to do something for them. In 2010, I started Real Life Real People NGO (RLRP NGO) out of the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital. Thus began my journey to give a safe haven to the underprivileged.”
Hussain talks of a young boy from a remote village in West Bengal who got lost and was living in the streets. He was intellectually challenged and was going through a really tough time. However, once he was rescued by the team of RLRP, he found a safe place. Warm meals, proper medication, and love and care helped him recover. After a few months, they were even able to locate his family in West Bengal, who came to get him.
“The joy I saw in the mother’s eyes when she hugged her lost son after 4 years made me so happy. I knew I had to continue doing this work to help many more like him.”

“We cook fresh meals for about 150 people daily - the ones in the shelter home as well as those in the hospital. But it’s not just food - we ensure that they are being fed properly, take their medicine on time, and listen to what they have to say about how they feel. These are people who have no one to ask them if they’re doing fine - we want to be a pillar of support for them. We need your help to continue our work, please help us with groceries and construction materials and support our cause.”

About the NGO: In 2010, M.A. Hussain started Real Life Real People (RLRP) NGO in Pune with the sole aim of serving those people who are poor and homeless and have no one to look after them. The organisation works on two levels - one, where they run a shelter home called the Sawali Nivara Kendra under the aegis of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation where they look after 60+ people. Apart from that, they also feed 100+ poor patients in Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital who can’t afford a single meal on their own. He is a messiah to countless people in India who have nowhere to go and no one to call family.
