As the Yamuna River swells beyond its banks, Vrindavan finds itself submerged in a flood crisis. Temples, including the revered Vishram Ghat, have succumbed to the floodwaters, disrupting the lives of devotees and leaving religious sites submerged. The entire Khadar area, once a tranquil abode, now stands inundated, leaving its people desperate for help. Among these are abandoned and old widows who had found safety and hope in Vrindavan. However, amidst the deadly floods, they stand to lose it all.
For many of these matajis, life has been a relentless struggle, marked by loss, and isolation. Now, as the floodwaters destroy Vrindavan, the challenges they face are only increasing, leaving them helpless once again.
Rising Waters Threaten To Take Away Their Safe, Spiritual Abode
Cast aside by society, widows face unimaginable challenges in their daily lives. Their plight is a heart-wrenching tale of sorrow and neglect. Stripped of support and often living in poverty, they struggle to access even the most essential resources. The recent floods that have ravaged Vrindavan have further increased their hurdles, leaving them displaced, without shelter, food and basic essentials.
While rescue operations are underway in Vrindavan where the NDRF are rescuing people and moving them to shelter homes, there are still many more widows who need help.
To save them from this plight, Pure Devotion Foundation has decided to work tirelessly to give them the essentials they need. Pure Devotion Foundation, an NGO based out of Rajasthan, has been instrumental in providing food for sadhus and widows in Vrindavan ever since the beginning of the pandemic. This year, during furious floods in North India, they want to continue helping hundreds of widows. However, they can’t do it alone.

After being left by their families and losing everything they had, these widows found safety and hope in Vrindavan. But now their only home is being taken from them again. Pure Devotion Foundation needs your support to get groceries and emergency kits containing umbrellas, torches and tarpaulin for the widows so that they can keep them safe and healthy through this crisis. About The NGO: Pure Devotion Foundation is an NGO that was started amidst the Covid-19 crisis to help widows in Vrindavan who were facing a shortage of food due to the lockdowns. What started with serving 80 widows, soon grew to help over 800 widows in a few months. Today they look after over 1000 widows in Vrindavan, Goverdhan, Radha Kund, and Haridwar. They have also been instrumental in providing food for sadhus ever since the beginning of the pandemic and helping vulnerable communities. They’re focused on education, setting up medical facilities, providing meals and ration kits for those in need, and much more.
