Project
Ever since he was a little boy, Sudheer Bhosale followed his grandparents around. Sometimes to the town, railway station and nearby areas - he was always a step behind them, and they were his only family. But Sudheer’s childhood wasn’t a regular one. Filled with pain, poverty and suffering, Sudheer and his grandparents had no option but to beg even for their most minor needs.
“I was born an Adivasi, and our living conditions were terrible. My grandparents were old, and we had no option but to beg for food and clothes at railway stations and in town. There have been so many times when I would get infections from eating food wasted by someone else, but what could we do? It was a matter of survival. I started going to the nearby nursery school in the hope of getting some food, but the children often made fun of me by calling me a thief. I couldn’t even afford a pencil and used coal to study. I was underconfident, afraid and physically weak. But I didn’t let any of that affect my education.” - Sudheer Bhosale, Founder
Sudheer Bhosale turned his life around. A little guidance from the right people, a whole lot of hard work and the drive to live a better life helped him go to college. Today, he supports over 50 underprivileged children to live up to their greatest potential. He is their guiding light and saviour.
He Quit His Job To Start The Shelter School - A Sign Of His Passion & Dedication To Educating The Poor
Sudheer started Pardhi Samaj Janjagruti Sevabhavi Santha Walunj eleven years ago in Beed, Maharashtra, an area known for its high Nomadic tribal (Pardhi) population. The thought came to him when he noticed children begging at traffic signals and railway stations while he was working in Pune. In them, Sudheer saw a reflection of his own childhood before education changed his life. A childhood that revolved around poverty and hunger.
“I had started working after dropping out of engineering college due to an accident. To cover my medical expenses I had to take a lot of loans, so I had no option but to get a job. But I know that without an education, I wouldn’t be where I am. My friends had always encouraged me to do something for children like this, and that’s when I decided to quit my job and start the NGO.”
Sudheer talked to parents and kids at signal and railway stations, offering them a home and education so they don't have to spend their lives on the roadside. In the first year, they welcomed 50 students to their shelter and there’s been no looking back since then. So many of his students have gone to get jobs, stand on their own feet and even look after their parents. And they credit Sudheer for their new life.
“Many of these children from tribal communities are victims of superstitions, child marriages, petty crimes and more. Education is the only way out for them. We look after all their needs at our shelter school and help them dream of a better future.”
However, this is no easy feat.
Your Support Can Help Countless Kids Escape Poverty
Arranging money for shelter after leaving his job is still one of the biggest problems Sudheer faces. He and his wife have gone door-to-door in town, asking for help from schools, colleges, and government offices. They were able to get some land from the government, on which they built a temporary school and started teaching the kids. However, arranging for groceries, stationery items and other essentials to run the school continues to be a daily struggle.
“I’m a great example of how kindness and support from others can completely change a person’s life. Today, I ask you to be that source of support for the 50 children at our shelter. Without this, they will never be able to escape the clutches of poverty.”
Sudheer needs your support to get groceries, stationery, and hygiene products for the children. Together we can help them rise above poverty.
