Vijay Is A Ray Of Hope To Hundreds Of Elderlies, Help Him Give Them A Better Life

“I have cremated more than 100 residents of this old age home. It is sad that even when you contact the families telling them that their parents have passed away, they don’t seem to care. But I have made a promise to them that I will take care of them till their last breath. And in no way am I going to back out on that promise,” - Vijay Bhrigu, Founder, Moksha Vridh Ashram.  

The seeds to this old age home were sown almost a decade ago 

Vijay Bhrigu was working in an orthopaedic clinic when he treated an old man, the patient was supposed to be on bed rest for 42 days but just after a week, his family members gave up on him.  

“They said it was too much. They were struggling to take care of this man who wasn’t even able to go to the bathroom and was using the bedpan. I couldn't let the man be on the streets so I decided to rent a small room and took care of him for the next 42 days. After he got better, when I was about to give up the room, another 70-year-old lady came to me - her sons had abandoned her and she had nowhere to go. I asked her to stay in the same room and thus began the humble journey of Moksha Vridh Ashram in 2008.” 

Currently, the old age home in Hisar, Haryana is a safe haven for over 150 residents who have been abandoned by their own families and are in no position to afford even a single meal. Moksha gives them warm, healthy food, a comfortable place to stay and medical check up - all free of cost.  What started in a small rented space has now grown into a full-fledged shelter for the ones who are suffering and in need of help. The entire expenses are borne with the help of donations. 

“I get calls from so many people - neighbours, social workers, even family members - who tell horrifying stories of the elderlies. Some have been left on the road or some have been robbed of all their savings by their own children! Moksha is a home for everyone, we try to give them a happy and peaceful life despite their physical as well as mental illnesses.”
