Srikruthi is only 8. An age meant for school bells and small dreams scribbled in notebooks but instead, her childhood has quietly slipped into a cycle of hospital visits ever since she was just 2 years old and diagnosed with Thalassemia Major.

Every month, her tiny body depends on donated blood to survive

Her body is unable to produce healthy blood on its own, which puts constant strain on her organs and survival depends on regular blood transfusions. And she is not alone.

But transfusions are only a temporary support

Over time, the body weakens further and risks keep increasing. Doctors have told the family that the only long-term cure is a bone marrow transplant, a procedure that could give Srikruthi a chance at a normal, healthy life.

In a rare stroke of hope, Naresh himself is a matching donor for his daughter

Naresh, is a daily wage painter. Some days he finds work while some days he doesn’t. At the end of the month, his total income comes to around Rs.9,000 to Rs.10,000, most of which disappears into hospital bills and transfusions to keep both his children alive.

Srikruthi loves studying. Her teachers say she’s bright, curious and always eager to learn. But lately, her books lie untouched. The doctors have said this surgery can give her a normal life.
