Every year, as Ganesh Chaturthi approaches, Yashwant carefully shapes clay into beautiful idols of Lord Ganesha. With skilled hands and unwavering faith, he spends long hours crafting each idol, knowing they will soon become part of countless families' celebrations and prayers.
But when he returns home, the only prayer on his mind is for his own son.
For the last 13 years, Sahil has depended on regular blood transfusions to survive.
Born with thalassemia, Sahil's childhood has revolved around hospital visits, medicines, and constant medical care. Every month, Yashwant would set aside ₹3,000 from his monthly earnings of around ₹12,000 just to ensure his son received his blood transfusions. Even if it meant borrowing money or cutting down on household expenses, he never let Sahil miss a treatment.
Over the years, however, Sahil's condition has become more demanding. The blood transfusions that once happened once a month are now needed twice every month, leaving nearly half of Yashwant's earnings devoted to keeping his son alive.
“I never thought there could be a permanent cure. We believed blood transfusions would be a part of Sahil's life forever. When the doctors told us a bone marrow transplant could give him a normal life, it felt like hope had finally entered our home,” says Yashwant.
Doctors have now advised an urgent bone marrow transplant, the only treatment that can free Sahil from a lifetime of transfusions and give him the chance to live like any other teenager.
But that hope comes at a cost.
The transplant and related treatment will cost approximately ₹35 lakhs, an amount far beyond what the family can arrange.
During the months of May, June, and July, Yashwant continues the tradition passed down by his father, making Ganesh idols by hand. For the rest of the year, he works as a driver whenever work is available, taking whatever jobs he can find to support his family.
“There are months when I don't get enough driving work. Whatever I earn goes towards Sahil's treatment. We have somehow managed for 13 years, but this surgery is beyond anything I can afford,” he says.
Despite years of treatment, Sahil has never stopped dreaming of a life beyond hospital walls. He wants to study, spend time with his friends, and live without wondering when his next transfusion will be.
For Yashwant, this transplant is more than just a medical procedure.
It is the chance to see his son grow up without pain. To see him live without depending on donated blood. To finally bring an end to a battle that has lasted for 13 years.
A father who spends his days creating idols that bring hope into countless homes is now hoping for one miracle in his own.
Please come forward and help Sahil get the life-saving bone marrow transplant he urgently needs.
