Gurfateh Singh is just 2 years old. At an age when most children are learning new words, running around their homes, and filling every corner with laughter, Gurfateh is spending his childhood inside hospital rooms, fighting a rare and life-threatening blood cancer.
His father is a farmer from Punjab. Every day, he works hard in the fields to provide for his family. But today, the biggest battle before him is not in the fields. It is the battle to save his little son.
It began with recurring fever, weakness, and frequent illness. Like any parent, his family hoped it was a temporary health issue. But after multiple tests and consultations, doctors delivered devastating news.
Gurfateh had been diagnosed with JMML, a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer.
“When the doctors told us our son has cancer, it felt like the ground slipped beneath our feet. He is only 2 years old. We never imagined such a small child would have to go through so much pain,” says his father.
Today, Gurfateh is undergoing treatment at CMC Ludhiana.
He is too young to understand what cancer means. He does not understand medical reports or treatment plans. He only knows that hospitals hurt.
Whenever doctors come near him for tests or injections, he immediately reaches for his mother.
“Jab usse injection lagta hai, woh meri god mein chipak jaata hai. Main usse sambhalti hoon, lekin andar se khud toot jaati hoon,” says his mother.
The little boy who should be playing with toys now spends his days surrounded by medicines, hospital beds, and painful procedures.
Sometimes he cries and asks to go home. Sometimes he simply lies quietly in his mother's lap, exhausted from treatment.
“Mera bachcha khelne ki umar mein hospital jaa raha hai. Uski chhoti si body itna sab kaise seh rahi hai, yeh sochkar dil kaanp jaata hai,” his mother says.
Doctors have advised an urgent bone marrow transplant, which offers Gurfateh the best chance at survival.
For his family, arranging treatment has become an enormous challenge. Hospital visits, medicines, tests, and ongoing care have pushed them far beyond their means.
“Khet mein kaam karte waqt bhi mera dhyaan har waqt Gurfateh ke paas hi rehta hai. Main fasal uga sakta hoon, lekin apne bete ke liye zindagi nahi uga sakta,” says his father.
Every day, before leaving for the fields, he makes the same ardaas.
Every night, before sleeping, he repeats the same prayer.
“Waheguru, mere Gurfateh nu bacha lo.”
Like every parent, they dream of simple things. They want to see him healthy. They want to hear him laugh again. They want to watch him run around the house and grow up like every other child.
Today, that future depends on timely treatment and the support of kind-hearted people.
Please come forward and help little Gurfateh get the life-saving treatment he urgently needs.
