Fifteen-year-old Ekam Singh should be worrying about school, friends, and cricket matches. Instead, he is fighting blood cancer inside a hospital ward.

What began as weakness and frequent fevers slowly turned into something far more serious. After several tests, doctors at CMC, Ludhiana delivered the news that shattered their world. Ekam has blood cancer and needs urgent chemotherapy.

For his mother, Neetu, the diagnosis felt like the ground slipping beneath her feet.

“I raised him alone. From the time he was small, it has just been the two of us. I used to tell him that no matter what happens, I will always protect him. But today, I feel so helpless watching him suffer,” says Neetu.

Neetu is a single mother who works as a cook in multiple homes. She leaves early in the morning, prepares meals for other families, and returns home late in the evening to ensure Ekam could study and build a better life.

Her annual income is barely enough to manage rent, groceries, and school expenses. Now she has been told that her son’s chemotherapy will cost nearly ₹10 lakh.

“I earn by cooking in other people’s kitchens. Some days I skip meals to save money. But how do I arrange such a big amount? Every chemotherapy session feels like a countdown, not just for his health, but for our savings,” she says.

Ekam has already started chemotherapy. The treatment is aggressive, painful, and long. There are days when he feels too weak to sit up. His hair is beginning to fall. Yet he tries to smile at his mother so she does not break down.

“Ma, I will get better. You don’t cry,” he tells her.

Behind that courage is a frightened teenager who just wants his normal life back.

Blood cancer is treatable. Chemotherapy can save Ekam’s life. But without financial support, Neetu fears the treatment may stop midway.
