At just 15, Abhi should be spending his days studying, playing with friends, and dreaming about the future. Instead, his life revolves around hospital visits, blood transfusions, and the uncertainty of a serious illness.

Abhi has been diagnosed with aplastic anaemia, a rare and serious condition in which the bone marrow fails to produce enough new blood cells. For a young boy who should be full of energy, even the simplest activities became increasingly difficult.

It began with something that seemed frightening but difficult to understand. His mother explains, “Abhi would lose his breath even after walking a short distance. Everyday movements became exhausting.” His family grew increasingly worried about his health.

As his condition continued, doctors started him on regular blood transfusions every 10 days. His family hoped these transfusions would help him regain his strength and return to a more normal routine. But despite the repeated hospital visits and treatments, Abhi’s condition was not improving as they had hoped.

The family knew they needed answers.

Further medical investigations, including a bone marrow test, finally revealed the cause of Abhi’s suffering: aplastic anaemia. The diagnosis brought clarity, but it also brought a new wave of fear and uncertainty. Abhi now needs a bone marrow transplant, a critical treatment that could give him a chance at a healthier future.

The estimated cost of his treatment is Rs 30 lakh, an amount far beyond what his family can afford on their own.

“My husband worked as a labourer at a steel plant in Amritsar. But everything has changed since Abhi fell ill. We have had to move closer to Ludhiana, and he is no longer able to go to work regularly,” Abhi’s mother shares. 

Between the mounting expenses, lost income, and the uncertainty of what lies ahead, the family is facing an incredibly difficult time. Their focus remains on getting Abhi the treatment he needs, even as the cost feels impossibly out of reach.

At 15, Abhi deserves the chance to grow up, pursue his dreams, and experience the life that should lie ahead of him. His illness has already taken so much from his childhood. With the right treatment, there is still hope for a different future.
