Abandoned And Orphaned These Kids Need Your Support To Live A Better Life
Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.
Millions of children in India have no parents to look after them. Orphaned at an early age, they are forced to live on the streets, beg for food, and are often pushed into substance abuse and similar vices. Imagine a 4-year-old girl with no one by her side, all alone on the road. She picks up leftovers from the garbage and sleeps on the footpath, all the while fearing that something bad will happen o her. Does this innocent child deserve a life like this for no fault of her own?
Reports have shown that COVID has only worsened their condition. India became the sixth country in the world to record high COVID-associated orphanhood.
“These children have no one to guard them against the seamy side of life. They become vulnerable and their life becomes a daily struggle. With no guidance, love, and care these kids face an increased risk of poverty, exploitation, s*xual violence or abuse, mental issues, etc,” - Sohanjeet Kaur, Founder, Mata Gujri Sahara Trust.
Home to 140+ orphans, this NGO on the outskirts of Patiala is giving these kids the hope of a better future
Mata Gujri Sahara Trust was established in the year 1995 - a tumultuous time in Punjab politics. Countless people had lost lives in the clashes that ensued and many children were orphaned. The Trust was formed to give a safe home to these children- a place where their childhood could be protected and they received all the love they deserved.
However, today, they take in all those children who have lost their parents in various unfortunate incidents. The Trust along with its team works hard to send them to good schools, gives them nutritious food, and most importantly, the safety of the home which was taken away from them. The Trust also bears the expenses of Anand Karaj (marriage) of the young adults who are of marriageable age and wish to get married.
“We get calls from the police about children in dire conditions. Kids who have faced abuse, sometimes, even from their own family members. Single parents often want us to take their children in, fearing they won’t be able to give them a good life. We never turn anyone away and welcome them with open arms.”
For over two decades, Mata Gujri Trust has wholeheartedly been taking care of underprivileged children who have no one to call their own. They have been dependent on donations from kind-hearted souls but the pandemic has changed things for the worse. The Trust has been struggling to feed proper food to the children - they’re unable to provide stationery to them so that they can continue their education.
“Our building too is in a very bad condition. The walls are peeling off and the mess needs repairing in several places. For these 140 kids, this is the only home they know - we want to give them a place full of happy memories.”
Help them bring back the smiles on the faces of these children
Mata Gujri Sahara Trust needs your support to feed nutritious meals to over 140 children in their care. They also need construction materials so that they repair the existing building and make room for many more children who need them. Your contribution will make a huge difference - donate now and save hundreds of children from the pangs of hunger, poverty, and suffering.
