51YO Kishanji Is A Ray Of Hope To The Homeless, Join Him In His Mission

While most of us take things like food and shelter for granted, there are still millions of people in this country for whom every day is a struggle. They don’t have a roof over their heads nor can they afford to eat two square meals a day. 51 YO Kishan Chandra Barva has dedicated his life to these underprivileged and helpless souls. For the last 5 years, Kishanji and his son have been working tirelessly to give these people a better life. 

A helpless mother by the side of the road with her dead child broke my heart, I wanted to help her 

The year was around 2015-16 when Kishanji came across a desperate woman on the roadside with her dead son beside her. She was asking people to help her take him to the crematorium but no one was ready. 

“That painful sight broke my heart and I decided to help her in this hour of need. That was the start of what I do to this day. My son and I, not only perform the last rites of the unclaimed bodies but also provide shelter to the homeless and abandoned. We look after their basic needs and give them a second chance at life,” - Kishan Chandra Barva, Founder, Manav Janhit Kalyan Sansthan.  

Kishanji met with a terrible bus accident in 1988 and unfortunately lost his leg. Although it was an uphill task, Kishanji was determined to live a fulfilling life. Even today, he never lets his disability come in the way of his social work. 

The Sansthan started off with the free-of-cost ambulance service which works round the clock. It is extremely beneficial for the poor who can’t afford an ambulance but are victims of accidents, trauma, heart attacks, etc. During the COVID pandemic, they cremated over 10,000 unclaimed bodies. Currently, they have a shelter home in Delhi that houses around 50 residents. 

“Most of them are abandoned by their families and have no one to look after them. Some of them we find in terrible conditions with maggots covered all over their bodies. We bathe them, give them clean clothes to wear, and assure them that they would be taken care of.”  

Join hands with Kishanji and give the underprivileged a better life 

For over 5 years now, Kishanji and his son have been working to support the cause of the poor and the needy. They feed them nutritious food and give them a place to stay without any worries. But with rising costs of everything, it is becoming more and more difficult for them to continue their service, they need your help now. 

“The happiness I see in people’s faces, that’s the reason I continue doing what I do. But I am sure with your help, I would be able to help many more. We request you to please donate ambulances because ours are now in the best condition. Apart from that, we would also need your help with coolers to beat the terrible Delhi summers, medicines, and groceries for the abandoned elderlies in our home.”

About the NGO: Founded by Kishan Chandra Barva in 2017, this Delhi-based NGO helps the poor and the underprivileged. They perform the last rites of the unclaimed bodies and are also home to 50 abandoned elderlies.
