Story of the changemaker

The menstrual cycle which is an inevitable biological process is unfortunately still considered taboo in Indian society especially in tribal areas. This prevents many young tribal girls on the threshold of puberty from learning about their bodies and discussing issues related to it.

If menstrual hygiene is not given importance, it raises the risk of reproductive tract infections and also affects fertility in the future.Still close to 70% of tribal women and girls still use mud,ash etc., during thier periods.

NGOs and few corporate have been putting their efforts in creating awareness on menstrual Hygiene however, this is not enough, considering the sheer magnitude of poverty in India; ensuring an adequate supply of sanitary pads is equally important.we hope individuals like you will help us address this problem by helping us facilitate the distribution of free sanitary napkins to teenage girls and women in the predominantly tribal districts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

V Care wishes to distribute 1,00,000 sanitary napkins and educate young girls and women for using the same on this Menstrual Hygiene day.The raised sanitary pads will be distributed through partner NGOs Youngistaan foundation(http://youngistaanfoundation.org/), PURE online (https://www.pureonline.org/) to maximize the reach.

Happy Period is just one click away!

Why Sakhi Sanitary pads?

Sakhi Sanitary napkins are low-cost, yet good quality sanitary napkins, being manufactured by rural self help women in Gujarat and 5 other states .They run these manufacturing units on very less profit margin which brings the cost of the pad. Revenue generated would be equally distributed among the SHG women. So this has become an alternative source of income for their family, where men is only bread winner. Sakhi mandals (Self Help Groups) are trained by Vatsalya Foundation,Vadodara. Vatsalya has trained 100+ groups and replicated this similar model in 6 states thus improving living condition of their families.
