She Lost Everything To Save Them — Help Rangu Feed And Shelter The Survivors Of Trafficking

Story of the changemaker
Rangu was just 23 when girls started vanishing from the tea gardens of Mirik, her small hometown. Villagers blamed the victims: She must have run away. She must have had a lover. But Rangu refused to believe the lies. When a 13-year-old girl was abducted while plucking tea leaves, Rangu, still a teenager herself, did the unthinkable - she followed the trail to Delhi. With no support, no money, and risking her own life, she tracked the girl down, fought against traffickers, and brought her home.
That was her first rescue. But it would not be her last.
‘They want me dead. They want me silenced. They send threats, even from prison. But I will not stop.’- Rangu Souriya.
Even from inside prison, the traffickers send threats. They know Rangu is not just rescuing their victims - she is destroying their business. She has walked alone through dense forests at midnight, chasing criminals who profit off stolen childhoods. She has faced them in court, testified against them and sent them to prison.
They are stolen, sold, r@ped - and then blamed for it.
“Society calls them impure. They are rejected for something that was never their fault. I could not let them be thrown away twice.”- Rangu, now 51.
This is why Rangu built Kanchanjungha Udhar Kendra (KUK), a shelter home for the girls no one wants. The name stands for a mountain that never melts - just like her spirit. Today, 15-20 young survivors live here, finally safe. Here, Rangu is the sister they never had, the mother they lost, the protector they desperately needed.
Rangu has rescued over 10,000 girls from human tr@fficking - but couldn't save the person who mattered most to her
One night in 2008, Rangu had a choice: stay by her fever-ridden mother’s side or rescue a group of girls to be sold into a red-light district. Rangu’s mother urged her to rescue the girls - The mission was successful, but by the time she returned home, her mother was gone. That guilt still haunts her.
I do not need awards. What I really need is your support
Rangu has received many honours. But they don’t mean anything to her because what she truly needs is help - food, medicines, a safe home for these girls to heal. She has given up everything to keep them safe - now there are no funds to keep this home running. She never married but spent her life saving others. No wealth, no savings - only an unbreakable will to fight for these girls. Join hands with Rangu and help provide essentials so that she can continue her journey.
