This Australian Has Made India His Home To Feed Hundreds Of Poor People, Help Him
Project
About 140 km from Kolkata, lies the divine and mystic city of Mayapur in the Nadia district of West Bengal. Situated at the meeting point of the River Ganga and River Jalangi, Mayapur is known for its rich customs, traditions, and artistic heritage, along with its beautiful bounty of nature. Dotted with multiple temples, Mayapur is a famous pilgrimage destination, especially for the Vaishanvites as it is the birthplace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Lakhs of tourists and pilgrims visit Mayapur from far and wide. So many of them have even made Mayapur their home. Immersed in the service of Lord Diety, they want to give back to society.
A spiritual quest that led to the start of a noble initiative
3 years ago, Billy came to India from Australia. He was on his spiritual journey to serve the higher power and it was in Mayapur that he found solace.
“It was as if I had found a new home and thus started my journey as Urugaya, a follower of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. My wife and I have always wanted to help the poor and the needy. One year ago we started a community-based and community-driven organisation called Th3 Lot,” - Urugaya (Billy’s name as given by his Guru).
Th3 Lot started with the vision of a plot of land where people would come together as a community, share their skills, and grow fresh vegetables. They wanted to encourage and inculcate living off the land but slowly it transformed into a much bigger and holistic movement.
“During the pandemic, my wife and I were heartbroken to see the local people suffer so much. They had lost their jobs and were forced to beg to feed their families. The sight brought tears to our eyes. We decided to cook food with locally grown produce, procured at a fair price and feed hundreds of villagers in need.”
Urugaya has been carrying out this feeding drive for 500 people three times a week. They cook the food and take it in a rickshaw to the various locations where little children, women and old people eat to their heart’s content. All this is fresh and nutritious and made with love. Urugaya reminiscences how sudden financial help from his family helped him start this and he wants to continue doing the same for many more years.
Support this man and help feed the poor and underprivileged
Urugaya is passionate about what he does - he wishes to help as many people as possible. In a world that has seen a lot of pain and suffering, The Lot wishes to bring back the smiles on helpless faces. But he can’t do this alone. Join hands with Urugaya and Th3 Lot and help them feed hundreds of hungry people in the villages near Mayapur, West Bengal.
“You can help us by donating groceries and a vehicle that will help us deliver the food to many more people in need. While it might seem small to you, it will make a huge difference to us.”
About the NGO: Started about a year ago in Mayapur, West Bengal, The Lot is the brainchild of Urugaya, a man of Australian descent and his wife. They cook food with locally grown produce, procured at a fair price and feed hundreds of villagers in need.
