Story of the changemaker
Millions of lives are at stake right now. With the acute shortage of oxygen supplies, there’s also an acute shortage of ambulances. We hear stories of people struggling to get transport to hospitals every day. Some take their loved ones in autos and some are left waiting until it’s too late. Several lives are lost just trying to get the right help at the right time. And timely ambulance service could potentially save thousands of lives.
HelpNow began with the aim to help connect people to the nearest ambulances in Mumbai. Started by Aditya Makkar, Shikhar Agrawal and Venkatesh Amrutwar, students of IIT Bombay, HelpNow works by connecting people to ambulances through a 24x7 helpline created by them. Apart from catering to critical patients looking for hospitalisation, HelpNow also provides free ambulance service to Government organizations like the Mumbai Police, and the needy 24 hours a day.
HelpNow uses the in-house software to ensure that the ambulance is dispatched on time and patients’ families are notified via text/ WhatsApp messages. HelpNow’s efforts throughout the Covid-19 pandemic have been tremendous. They’ve already helped hundreds of Covid patients get to the hospital in time.
“There are so many people that need help. We’re working day and night to ensure we’re able to reach as many people as possible. We use data science to position our vehicles and predict an upcoming medical case. Using four different parameters, our algorithm suggests the relevant hospital for the patient. We’re trying our best. With your help, we can do even more.” - Aditya Makkar .
HelpNow needs your support. They want to take this 24x7 ambulance service to cities other than Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Bangalore, where they are currently operational, and need your help to get ambulance vehicles. With your support, they will be able to get ambulances and help many more people in need.
