India is a land of myriad festivals and each one holds special significance in the lives of the people. One such festival is the famous Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra also known as the Festival of Chariots, which is believed to be the oldest and largest chariot procession in the world. The festival commences on the second day of Ashada month during the waxing phase of the moon of the Hindu lunar calendar. Idols of Lord Jagannath or Diety in the Shri Mandir of Puri with his sister Subhadra and elder brother Balabhadra, are taken out on the roads on three different chariots to the Gundicha Mata Temple. It is celebrated with great pomp and show and attracts tourists and devotees from all over the world.

Millions of devotees take part in the processions to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath. It is said to be more than five thousand years old and hasn’t seen a single change in the rituals in all these years.

The Rath Yatra is famous for its chariots, which are built every year and painted in bright colors. The chariots are drawn by the devoted pilgrims, and it is believed that touching the rope of Lord Jagannath’s chariot cleanses one of the sins they have committed, knowingly or unknowingly.

“While the devotees and tourists form an important part of the festival, the pandas or the pandits are at the centre of this auspicious occasion. We want to give all of them fresh and healthy meals. We’re conducting a feeding program where thousands of people will get nutritious meals. Last year, over 2000 of you came forward to help us. We hope, this year too, you will support our cause,” - Maharaj from Gauranga Seva Foundation.

For over 15 years now, Gauranga Seva Foundation has been involved in multiple charitable acts. Over a decade, they have served a total of over 13 crore meals to lakhs of people in need and countless lives have been changed by their efforts. Now they wish to feed warm and nutritious food to all those attending the famous Puri Rath Yatra.

About the NGO: Gauranga Seva Foundation is an organization based in Odisha that has been working for the betterment of people for years now. They have impacted countless lives through their feeding programs in orphanages, schools for the visually impaired, grocery distribution during the pandemic, and more. They have served over 90 lakh cooked meals in Odisha so far. Along with fighting hunger, they also support the education of the poor, conduct free medical camps, help train farmers, and carry out plantation drives, among other important activities.
