Support Feeding India By Zomato’s Mission To Help Thousands Of Hungry Rag-pickers In Delhi

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

The latest Global Hunger Index shows that India ranked 101 out of 116 countries in the recently released Global Hunger Index. It was one among the 31 nations where hunger has been classified as ‘serious’. Approximately 4500 children under the age of five years die every day in the country due to hunger and malnutrition, amounting to over three lakh deaths every year, owing to the hunger of children alone.

The high rate of unemployment is one of the primary reasons for this looming hunger crisis in India and the pandemic has only aggravated the condition. The situation is worse for the massive reserve of rag-pickers in India. There are estimated to be somewhere between 1.5 million and 4 million rag pickers in the country; Delhi itself has over 500,000. Being one of the most marginalized communities in the country, they were forced to starve and were not in any condition to afford even a single meal a day.

However, these difficult times also saw countless people and organisations working to feed the hungry

Feeding India, a non-profit by Zomato, is dedicated towards making India hunger-free. With the help of NGOs, kitchens and donors, they’re making a difference every single day. They work to ensure everyone has access to food daily.

Feeding India was founded in 2014 by Ankit Kawatra and Srishti Jain, and in January 2019 merged with Zomato to accelerate its progress towards solving hunger in India. Feeding India by Zomato has served over 15.3 Cr meals as of September 2021. They have also helped tremendously during the pandemic by feeding the underprivileged and providing oxygen supplies to those in need.

Right now, they want to help the rag pickers in Delhi with Cross Foundation and give them two square meals a day.

“My childhood was not easy. I had work to support my education and I know the pangs of hunger that one faces when they can’t afford a single meal. I was determined to make a difference and help feed as many people as I could. Through the Cross Foundation, I have been doing just that.”  - Sanjeev Kumar, Founder, Cross Foundation.

Cross Foundation is based out of Delhi and works closely with the migrant workers and the banjaras. Feeding India by Zomato will be joining hands with Cross Foundation to help feed thousands of rag-pickers.
