Pain Has Become An Inseparable Part of Their Lives, This Winter Give Vrindavan Matajis Hope

Imagine facing the biting cold of winter without a roof over your head or adequate winter clothes. Unfortunately, this is the harsh reality for the widowed Matajis in Vrindavan. With no one to turn to, they endure the freezing temperatures with unimaginable strength. On most days, they don’t even have a morsel of food. Pure Devotion Foundation is on a mission to provide these Matajis with the warmth they deserve.

These forgotten Matajis live in deplorable conditions - all they want is little love and support 

In the sacred city of Vrindavan, a place where devotion flows as freely as the Yamuna River, the plight of thousands of Matajis remains a poignant and often overlooked reality. Drawn to this sacred land in search of solace, peace, and the hope of receiving blessings from Lord Krishna, many of these elderly women find themselves living in terrible conditions. The harsh truth is that a significant number of widows in Vrindavan are abandoned, left to fend for themselves without the support and care they deserve.  

“Their faces light up when they see us visiting them. These warm blankets and woolens are their only respite during the bitterly cold weather. So many of them suffer from ailments. Some have backaches, some are too old to see clearly while many others have asthma and other related issues. Despite these illnesses, they’re forced to beg on the streets for some food and a little comfort - their condition is truly heartbreaking,” - Sundar Prabhuji, Pure Devotion Foundation.     

During the challenging times of the COVID pandemic, Pure Devotion Foundation worked dedicatedly to support thousands of widows in Vrindavan who were facing food scarcity. What began as a response to the immediate needs of 80 Matajis swiftly transformed into a compassionate movement that now embraces over 1000 widows across Vrindavan, Goverdhan, Radha Kund, and Haridwar. Each month, the foundation provides them with essential groceries, milk, and basic medical facilities. Along with this, they also distribute groceries during Janmashtami and warm clothes and milk to over 10,000 widows during the winter months.
