Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai is a grand celebration of Lord Diety's birth. The city comes alive with elaborate processions, colorful decorations, and giant idols of Lord Diety installed in homes and public pandals. Devotees offer prayers, sing hymns, and immerse the idols - it truly unites the community like nothing else.

However, while countless people will celebrate this festival with much joy and fervor this year, thousands will spend their days desperately trying to save their loved ones in Mumbai’s government hospitals. Helpless, in debt, and starving for days, these people have suffered through the worst. Even a single meal is hard for them to come by. However, there is hope.

Akshaya Chaitanya feeds thousands of family members living outside government hospitals every single day, and they’re determined to make this Ganesh Chaturthi special for them.

Despite Their Challenges, They Ensure Over 10000 Get Healthy Meals Every Single Day

“Whether it’s a national holiday, the weekend, or a festival, our feeding program never stops. I can proudly say that we haven’t missed a single day of serving meals in years, despite the many challenges we face. There have been days when we thought we wouldn’t be able to continue the feeding program, but by God’s grace, we were able to manage somehow. We also have to ensure that all the food service outside all the hospitals starts at the same time - we know that there are people waiting for us, and we don’t want to let them down in any way,” says Vikas Parchhanda, the CEO of Akshaya Chaitanya’s Maharashtra Chapter.

Mr. Vikas, a native of Punjab, was surprised to see so much hunger and poverty when he came to Mumbai for his first job. He wanted to do something for the underprivileged, and when he got an opportunity to work with the Hare Diety Movement to eradicate hunger, he didn’t think twice before quitting his job as the VP of Reliance Jio.

As an initiative of the HKM Charitable Foundation, Akshaya Chaitanya is undertaking three key feeding initiatives. One among them is the Swasthya Ahara initiative, which aims to provide free, unlimited, nutritious lunches to patients' families in government hospitals that keep them healthy and help them save for medication. Through this, they’re feeding over 10,000 people every single day. People wait eagerly for the food service to begin at 12 p.m. and leave with a smile on their faces.

Every day, the team encounters so many heartbreaking stories from patients and their families. Mr. Vikas recounts one that stayed with him.

“A farmer brought his daughter from Nanded to Mumbai for her treatment. Despite spending nearly 5 lakhs, he wasn’t able to cure her and had no option but to bring her here. All he worries about is his daughter - he wants her to get educated and have a better life than he did. But he’s helpless. He hasn’t been able to tend to his farm in months and he’s run out of all his savings. Sleeping outside the hospitals and skipping meals - it’s the only way he was surviving. But now, he has all his meals with us. He tells us how he’s able to save money and has found hope again.”

What is Donatekart ?

How to claim Tax-Exemption for my contributions on Donatekart?

After you complete your donation successfully, you will find the 'GET 80G' button on the payment success page. Please fill in your PAN number, complete address, and name as per PAN and submit. Your 80G certificate will be generated and sent via email within 24 hours.

Alternatively, you can get your 80G receipt in a few simple steps:

Log in to your account using the same email ID you used for the donation
Go to ‘My Donations’
Choose the financial year for which you'd like the donation certificate
Click on ‘Download 80G Certificate’
Fill out the Form (if required)
Submit the form and 80G will get downloaded instantly

Instead of receiving separate 80G certificates for each donation, you'll receive a consolidated 80G certificate via email covering all your donations made through our platform in the financial year. Further, The corresponding 10BE form that proves your eligibility for the tax deduction will also be consolidated. This way, you won't have to worry about multiple downloads and can save time.

How To Avail 10BE?

To qualify for tax exemption on your donations, you need to obtain a 10BE. This can be done by filing your 80G claims for donations made during the Financial Year (FY). You can download your 10BE from the‘My Profile’ section by 31st May of the next FY and also receive it via email.

For example: if you made donations between April 2023 and March 2024 (FY 2023-24), you will get your 10BE by 31st May 2024, provided you need to claim the 80G for these donations.

Please note that you cannot claim 80G for donations made between April 2022 and March 2023 (FY 2022-23) anymore as the window for claiming it has closed. However, you can still get the 10BEs for that year if you made 80G claims on or before 31st July 2023.

Why do we collect a tip amount ?

Sometimes prices of the products change during the course of the campaign, we use these tips to cover the hike in prices and deliver the goods to NGOs.

Tip is a voluntary contribution towards our platform and donors can choose to give any amount as tips.

Are these NGOs verified ?

All these NGOs are registered and are highly reputed in their areas of service. You can visit them and talk to them in person if you desire. Please write into us at info@donatekart.com and we'll provide you with all their contact details.

How do I know these products have reached the right beneficiary ?

At Donatekart, we value 100% trust and transparency. It is mandatory for NGOs to send updates to donors,once the campaign is completed. We request you to wait for a few days so that we can deliver the products to our NGO partners and they can distribute them to the needy.Within a month,you would see update(s) in the form of pictures or videos from the NGO in the 'Updates Tab' of the campaign you donated to.
