This Maha Shivratri, Feed Thousands of Sadhus in Varanasi
Project
Varanasi is not just a city. It is faith in its purest form. Every day, temple bells echo through its lanes, the Ganga flows silently beside the ghats, and thousands of devotees arrive in Kashi to bow before Lord Shiva.
But beyond the prayers and rituals, there is another reality.
Along the ghats of Banaras, lakhs of sadhus live a life of complete devotion. They have no homes, no stable income, and no certainty of their next meal. Their lives are dedicated to Shiva, to meditation, and to spiritual discipline. They sleep on stone steps, endure harsh weather, and survive on the little food that comes their way.
For many sadhus, hunger is not occasional. It is daily.
“Kashi is the city of Lord Shiva, where devotion breathes in every corner. It is our responsibility to ensure that no sadhu who lives in His name ever sleeps hungry.”, says Ashok Pandit
During Maha Shivratri, this reality becomes even more intense. As thousands of sadhus travel to Kashi to worship Lord Shiva, the number of hungry mouths multiplies. The ghats become more crowded, resources become scarce, and many sadhus are left with nothing but faith.
The Homeless Care Foundation has been working quietly on these ghats to change this reality.
Every day, the foundation prepares fresh, nutritious meals and serves 200 to 300 sadhus in Kashi. Their work extends from Banaras to Vrindavan, where they support homeless people and ascetics with food and care. Behind this effort is a simple belief: devotion should never be punished with hunger.
Ashok Pandit, who leads this initiative, sees the struggle of sadhus up close every day.
“A sadhu may never ask for food, but their silence speaks louder than words. If we truly believe in Lord Shiva, we must care for His devotees.”
This Maha Shivratri, the need is greater than ever. To arrange daily bhandaras, to cook thousands of meals, and to reach every sadhu who arrives in Kashi, Homeless Care Foundation needs support.
