What is happening in India right now is nothing short of tragic and heartbreaking. Along with the increasing number of cases every day, there are also increasing numbers of deaths. All around us, people are losing their loved ones. And the worst part? They can’t even be with them during this devastating crisis. Covid positive patients who are succumbing to the disease are cremated without a single family member in sight. But there are also hundreds of unidentified bodies, and those who aren’t getting the dignified last rite that they deserve.
The members of ENACTUS IIT Delhi believe that after suffering all alone due to the virus, these patients at least deserve a respectable last rite. The members of ENACTUS IIT DELHI considers the cremation of unclaimed and poor people very special because they believe that the last rite is the last samskara in a series of traditional life samskaras which starts from the conception in our Hindu tradition and contributes to our life journey for a peaceful moksha. This holds especially true and significant during the second wave.
Arth is a social initiative by Enactus IIT Delhi, a NGO with a team of 50+ members working on creating an impact. Arth’s purpose is to create logs for cremations and help people get the last rite they deserve. The logs they are using for the cremations are made from our pious indigenous cow's dung which will help in completing the Antyesti or Anth-Kriya for unidentified covid patient bodies during this crisis.
“There are no burial grounds, sometimes no one to do the last rites, and there are so many unidentified bodies. There’s just so much pain and suffering. We want to do everything we can to give these people the last rite they deserve - one of respect and dignity. We are now using cow dung logs for these cremations, but we can't do it on our own.”
The members of Enactus IIT Delhi now need your help to give hundreds a dignified cremation amid the second wave. They have not let the pandemic stop them, and want to continue working hard towards giving people a dignified cremation. You can support them on their journey.
