This Modern Day Shravan Is On A Mission To Provide A Comfortable Life To Abandoned Elderlies

“I can understand the generation gap, financial constraints or even the constraint of space but what I can never understand is how can a child abandon their parents after all they have done for them. Dr Modi is the modern-day Shravan,the obedient son in Hindu mythology who looks after his parents. Uday Modi has made it his mission to feed hundreds of abandoned and homeless elderlies who have no one to look after them. The Ayurvedic practitioner, apart from free consultancy, supplies one-course meals to hundreds of abandoned aged parents every day. 

Their final years should be filled with happiness and contentment, not pain and uncertainty

“When I started this service in my house in 2008, my wife, Kalpana, would cook for just 11 people. Now, the number has gone up to 500 people daily.”

Dr. Modi has been running Shravan Tiffin Seva for over 13 years now. Each tiffin box contains six chapatis, a curry, dal and rice. On Sundays, he serves a home-made dessert and some farsan. All of this started, way back in 2008 when a couple in their late 70s showed up at his clinic. The woman was chronically ill and her husband didn’t have a single rupee in his pocket. Moved by their troubles, Uday Modi decided to feed these helpless old people. 

“My soul intention is to give them all the happiness and comfort they deserve but don’t get. I have been continuing the tiffin service and now I want to build an old age home for them where their basic needs will be taken care of.” 

This son now wishes to build a Dikra Nu Ghar - a home for the elderly 

Uday Modi has decided to construct an old age home for all those who have no place to stay and their families have abandoned them. He wants to call this ‘Dikra Nu Ghat’ meaning ‘the house of your son’. 

“Everyone wishes to live their life in dignity. That is all I want to give these elderlies but I need your support for that. I request you all to please come forward and donate generously to help me build a home for those who have no one for them.”
