Terrifying Visuals Of Landslides And Flash Floods Causing Widespread Devastation
Himachal Pradesh is known for its breathtaking beauty, but this calamity is causing widespread devastation. Thousands of people have been displaced, stranded and isolated. The visuals from Himachal are truly terrifying.
The people of Himachal witnessed at least 14 landslides and 13 flash floods over the weekend alone. Tragically, five lives, including three members of a family, have been lost, while more than 700 roads have been blocked. The disruption caused by the floods has led to the cancellation of at least 20 trains, adding to the chaos and challenges faced by the affected people. Bridges and communication networks are completely disrupted. Life has come to a standstill in this once haven of peace and tranquility.
The situation calls for swift action and with your support, we can reach the people of Himachal soon with the essentials they need. Groceries will save countless families from going hungry during this tragic event, tarpaulin sheets will keep them safe after they’ve lost everything they had. Food and shelter are the need of the hour, and together we can ensure these flood victims don’t suffer more losses than they already have.
Along with our on-ground NGO partners, we can restore hope to the people affected by these furious floods in North India.
Beneficiary NGOs:
1. Doon Animal Welfare: Based in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, Doon Animal Welfare is engaged in working for neglected humans and animals by providing them with free treatment facilities, medicine, and access to other essentials. The founder, Milli Kaur Arora, believes that all lives hold the same value, therefore, saving all of them is equally important. Not only have they saved animals in need but also helped people get access to oxygen supplies during the pandemic. Amid the floods in North India, they want to continue during their bit to save lives.
2. Goonj: Since 1999, Goonj has built a network of communities from urban to village India, channelizing material as a tool to address crucial gaps in rural infrastructure, water, environment, livelihood, education, health, disaster relief and rehabilitation. Its engagement with both the urban and rural populations has galvanized mass civic participation in addressing basic but neglected issues. They’ve played an important role in supporting marginalized communities throughout the pandemic, and want to continue helping people during the floods in North India.
3. Hope Welfare Trust: An initiative by youngsters with a will to bring about a change in society, Hope Welfare Trust started as a nascent movement in Varanasi in September 2015. A few students from various universities and colleges joined hands with the aim to bring about sustainable development in rural Indian villages, involving women to play a key role. Their efforts throughout the pandemic and other times of crisis have been tremendous. While they helped sadhus get grocery kits and meals, they have also worked to help the leprosy patients in Varanasi, the Dom community and other vulnerable people.
4. Nivesh - Started in March 2006, to support education, water, sanitation, culture, animal welfare & health across India, Nivesh has been actively working with central & state governments, UN and bilateral agencies, to create sustainable livelihoods for the needy. Nivesh works with communities on community participation while undertaking on-ground programmes. Supporting feeding & medical care for stray animals, holding health awareness camps, providing medical equipment for hospitals & communities, running community kitchens and providing relief during natural disasters are some of the activities that Nivesh is actively involved in. Amidst the floods in North India, they’re helping people in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.

During the pandemic, their efforts were relentless as they helped thousands of migrant workers and slum dwellers get oxygen supplies, grocery kits, and other essentials to survive the crisis. Now during the floods in North India, they want to help as many people as possible in Delhi.
6. The Kalgidhar Society – This is a non-profit charitable organisation focused on providing quality education to fight against the alarming rise in substance and alcohol abuse.
