Over 173 Dead, Thousands Stranded. Stand With The Victims of Himachal Floods
Project
This monsoon, Himachal Pradesh is facing one of its worst natural disasters in decades. Relentless rainfall has unleashed landslides, flash floods, and the collapse of bridges and roads. Entire villages are cut off. Families are stranded in isolated valleys, unsure when help will reach them.
Official reports confirm that over 173 people have lost their lives. Ninety-five to deadly landslides, flash floods, and collapsing homes, and seventy-eight to road accidents caused by treacherous conditions. But beyond these numbers are stories of unimaginable loss.
In Kullu, a mother who lost her home says quietly, “My children ask when we will go home. I have no answer. There is no home left.”
More than 383 roads, including vital lifelines like NH305, NH505, NH21, and NH03, are blocked. Markets have vanished under mud. Schools are closed. Many villages in Chamba, Kullu, Mandi, and Una remain completely isolated.
Power transformers and water supply schemes are damaged. “We have no light, no water, and no roof. Only hope that someone will help,” says a villager from Una, standing where his home once stood.
Mahesh, a resident of Banjar, remembers the moment disaster struck: “We were asleep when the water hit. We had to pick up whatever we could and leave immediately.” His family now sleeps on the floor of a local school, along with dozens of others.
Our NGO partners are working tirelessly, clearing debris, reopening roads, and reaching stranded families. Volunteers are delivering hot meals, tarpaulins, blankets, solar lamps, hygiene kits, and medical supplies to those in desperate need. But with more heavy rain in the forecast, the danger is far from over.
In some areas, help has yet to arrive. Villages remain cut off for days. Families are surviving on whatever little food they can save. “The rain hasn’t stopped. I just want my family to be safe,” says a father from Chamba, looking at the broken bridge that once connected his village to the outside world.
The road to recovery will be long. Homes will need to be rebuilt. Livelihoods restored. But right now, the priority is survival.
Stand with Himachal. Stand with its people. Your support today can bring hope where there is none.
