Pankaj Needs Your Help To Feed Over A Thousand Hungry People Every Day

When Pankaj Gupta started Devdoot Food Bank to help feed people in need, little did he imagine that 3 years later, he would be saving 1000+ people from going hungry every day. Pankaj will never forget the day he decided to start Devdoot. It was the day he realized his sole purpose - to help as many people as he could. And he hasn’t looked back ever since. 

Three years ago in Gurugram, Pankaj was walking outside his house when he noticed a group of young children running around in excitement. This wasn’t an unusual sight, but something seemed different. As he stood and watched, Pankaj noticed them running to one another with food, but what he saw next shocked him – the children were celebrating their discovery of rotten, discarded food in the dumpster. These children were underprivileged and probably hadn’t had a full meal in days. Even finding rotten food seemed like a moment of celebration to them.

Pankaj spent the next few nights without sleep. He and his brother, Vipin, decided that these children and several others like them deserved healthy, nutritious meals. Thus began their journey of serving hot, fresh, home-cooked meals to those who couldn’t afford it.

Although purely an act of service, Pankaj didn’t want people to feel like they were being pitied. Meals were, therefore, priced at 5 rupees a plate. However, no money was expected or asked of those who were unable to pay the amount. Initially, Pankaj expected a few dozen people to come looking for a meal. But the numbers only grew with every passing day, and today he serves food to hundreds of homeless, underprivileged, and elderly people who have been abandoned.

The best part about Devdoot Kitchen is that every meal is nutritious, healthy, and completely balanced, cooked in the most hygienic conditions. While Pankaj has been serving three meals every day at two places in Gurugram, he’s struggling to get by. The lockdown brought several challenges with it, and though Pankaj tried his best with minimal resources, the number of people that needed help just grew. Besides feeding people at these two locations, Pankaj also feeds 1100 underprivileged children from a government school nearby.

About Devdoot - Devdoot Food Bank has been feeding poor and vulnerable individuals from 2018. It was founded by Pankaj and Vipin in Gurugram, India. Their initiative is to help feed individuals food for a nominal cost of Rs. 5. They started out by feeding 100 to 150 people per day. Today, during the pandemic, they’re feeding over 700+ families three meals each day.
