    Project

It was a normal day in Sanjay Mahapatra’s life when he came across a little puppy on the roads of Noida. She had met with an accident and had fractured two of her legs. Sanjay was shocked to see how people saw the little one in pain, yet no one stopped to help her.

“I picked her up, took her to the hospital, and then finally when she had fully recovered, I knew she would be coming home with me. We named her Diety because we had found her near a Diety temple. Diety stayed with us for 13 long years and 9 months and while she was with us she taught us to love all those animals on the streets who have no one to care for them,” - Sanjay Mahapatra (Dog Daddy), House Of Stray Animals (HSA), Noida.

Ask Sanjay if he is the founder of this organisation - he vehemently disagrees. “Of course not,” he says, “It was Diety who started all of this, she is the founder. I am simply carrying out her wishes.” People lovingly call him Dog Daddy - his love for stray dogs is heartwarming

Sanjay has rescued hundreds of animals in need

For the last 15 years, Sanjay Mahapatra and his team of dedicated doctors and volunteers have been saving hundreds of sick and injured animals. Some of them are hit-and-run cases, while others are victims of animal cruelties. House of Strays treats all of them free of cost. Over time, they have also built a dispensary for those cases who can’t be left back on the streets and need a place to recuperate - the paralysed and the visually challenged. During the pandemic, HSA started an animal kitchen and fed thousands of strays who were starving on the roads.

“Currently, we have around 200 strays staying with us in our shelter. We care for them round the clock and give them the best of everything. We also feed 1500 strays outside our shelter on a daily basis. All these animals want is a little care and love - that’s what we aim at doing for them.”

While the winters are knocking on our doors, Sanjay needs your help to give these strays a better life

Winter is soon approaching, and Noida is known to record very low temperatures. This means that thousands of helpless stray dogs will be left to suffer, out in the bitter cold. The sights are similar every year - the dogs go looking for warmth in different places, but are shooed away by humans. They don’t have food and often fall ill due to the cold. So many of them just because no one stepped forward to help them.

“These stray dogs need us more than ever during these times. They have already suffered due to the pandemic, let us ensure they now have a better life.  You can help us by donating dog coats and we will ensure that none of them suffer during the winters.”

Join hands with House of Strays and help thousands of streeties brave the terrible winters - every donation will save a life.

About the NGO: House of Stray Animals in Noida is an animal shelter and a dispensary that is working for the welfare of street animals for the last 15 years. Run by an avid animal lover, Sanjay Mahapatra, the organisation now needs your help to save stray dogs from cold winters.
