Help Niharika Feed Warm Meals And Educate Over 400 Underprivileged Children

“A few years ago, I was enjoying my evening snack with my friends from a roadside stall when I saw something that changed my life forever. I saw two hungry children eagerly eyeing the food being prepared. Before I could offer to buy them a meal, someone tossed their half-eaten food into the bin, and one of the kids rushed to retrieve it. I was left in shock, unable to believe what had just happened,” - Dr. Niharika Singh, Founder, of Happy To Help Foundation. 

Niharika wasn’t able to finish her food that day. The image of the hungry children rummaging through the bin was etched into her mind. A student of sustainable fashion, this young changemaker knew the three pillars of sustainability - environmental, social, and economic - can’t exist without one another. Along with working on her project to create a sustainable clothing brand, Niharika resolved to bring about social sustainability by uplifting hundreds of underprivileged kids in Uttarakhand. 

Armed with her strong willpower and a team of dedicated volunteers, Niharika is making a real difference 

While Niharika has been working hard to feed and educate hundreds of kids for the last three years, her organisation, Happy To Help Foundation, was registered a year back. Their mission is simple - they want to empower countless underprivileged kids and help them fulfill their dreams. 

“There is no one to sit with them and listen to their problems. No one encourages them to go to school. Instead, these little kids beg on the streets or work in tea stalls for a morsel of food. With no proper guidance and parents struggling for the bare minimum, they often get addicted to substances,” - Niharika. 

She shares the story of a brother-sister duo in a slum in Dehradun who never thought they would be able to go to school. While their days were spent selling flowers and earthen lamps with their mother, their nights were filled with fear, hoping their alcoholic father would not beat them up. But thanks to the help of Happy To Help’s volunteers, they saw a ray of hope. 

“They were so diligent and wanted to learn so much. Both of them secured top ranks in their school exams and made all of us proud.”

Right now, Niharika's NGO helps over 400 kids. They run after-school study centers in different parts of Uttarakhand. Here, the kids get more than just help with their schoolwork. They also receive counseling and learn about their basic rights. Niharika and her team even help them apply for important documents like Adhaar cards, empowering them to build a better future for themselves.

“But the most important aspect of this is giving them nutritious food. No one can study on an empty stomach and that’s why we give them freshly cooked meals and seeing smile gives me the biggest joy.
