Story of the changemaker

“He was just a child but was raped thrice. Burnt with cigarettes from head to toe, even his tongue. One night in sheer desperation, he jumped from the first-floor window to escape because he thought even death was better than that torture. Limping in pain, he dragged himself to the main road until someone found him and handed him over to us. It took us months of gentle care to reach the child inside him again.” - Akhilesh, founder of Naya Sawera Shelter Home.

This one rescue changed everything for Akhilesh.

“A 10x10 room in Rajasthan. 26 boys. No fan, no windows, no food, and no humanity. They were working till 3 am, making bangles for almost 17-18 hours a day. They were beaten with rods, their eyes rubbed with chilli powder, and beaten if they didn’t hit targets or dared to sleep. They were not allowed to go to the toilet except once a day. That day, I couldn't sleep. That day, I stopped being afraid.” - Akhilesh, founder of Naya Sawera Shelter Home

That raid was covered by NDTV. But the true aftermath, the healing, the therapy, the rebuilding happened quietly, day after day, at Naya Sawera Shelter Home.

1,000 young boys with 1,000 stories of survival and second chances

Back in college, Akhilesh had no NGO, team, or roadmap—just a heart full of compassion. Every weekend, he’d step into the slums armed only with kindness, teaching lessons, sharing meals, and offering a semblance of hope to children the world had forgotten.

In 2018, he opened Naya Sawera Shelter Home - a safe lifeline for male children and teens who had been trafficked, abused, beaten, and buried in invisible chains of child labour.

Most of them had never stepped inside a school, hugged a parent or even dared to dream

Since then, he has rescued and rehabilitated over 1,000 boys found working in sweatshops, begging at railway stations, forced to manufacture bangles for 18 hours a day just to earn one stale meal.

The mute boy who couldn’t speak but yet told everything

The next morning, he met me, and in that moment, we became friends. He spent hours drawing pictures to share his story, including one of me. After searching, we found a missing report for him and were able to reunite him with his family.

He never spoke, but he told me everything. I will always remember his face. I don’t need words to remember him. I see him in every silent child who comes to us, hoping to be heard.

Naya Sawera is more than a shelter, it's where boys remember what it means to be children

These children need healthy food, clean clothes, hygiene kits, therapy, educational stationery, and most importantly, support and safety.

Contribute and help Akhilesh to rescue more boys from darkness, so their childhood is free from pain and full of hope.

FAQs

Donatekart is India's one of a kind crowdfunding platform that allows donors to directly donate towards products that are required by the NGO. In the last 5 years, we have partnered with 10,000+ NGOs all over India to raise 400+ crores worth of products. More than 10 lakh unique donors have used our platform to donate to charities of their choice. Further, The corresponding 10BE form that proves your eligibility for the tax deduction will also be consolidated. This way, you won't have to worry about multiple downloads and can save time.

To qualify for tax exemption on your donations, you need to obtain a 10BE. This can be done by filing your 80G claims for donations made during the Financial Year (FY). You can download your 10BE from the ‘My Profile’ section by 31st May of the next FY and also receive it via email.

For example: if you made donations between April 2025 and March 2026 (FY 2025-26), you will get your 10BE by 31st May 2026, provided you need to claim the 80G for these donations.

Please note that you cannot claim 80G for donations made between April 2024 and March 2025 (FY 2024-25) anymore as the window for claiming it has closed. However, you can still get the 10BEs for that year if you made 80G claims on or before 31st July 2025.
