Help Kulwinder Singh Continue His Noble Work Of Saving Hundreds Of Injured Animals
Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.
Story of the changemaker
“In 2011, my life changed when I saw a cow that had been walking around for three days with a big wound on her body. Soon, there were maggots on the wound and she was in so much pain that she couldn’t even move anymore. I was told that a man had stabbed the cow with a dagger and no one had come forward to help the poor animal. I called many organisations, but no one was willing to help. I soon realised that there was not a single hospital for these stray animals all over Punjab, leaving many animals to die due to these injuries.” - Kulwinder Singh, Founder, Hira Animals Hospital
Kulwinder Singh then took the cow home and started her treatment. He continued taking in injured cows and rehabilitating them for two years at home. Kulwinder Singh was finally able to set up the Hira Animals Hospital in 2013 and has saved thousands of injured animals since then.
Over 12,000 Animals Have Got A New Lease On Life
Named after the monk Baba Hira Singh who spent his entire life looking after cows, Hira Animals Hospital is a safe space for cows and any other injured animals. With a team of 52 members who give the cows the love, care and respect they deserve, they have been able to rescue over 12,000 animals so far. Besides cows, they also rescue and treat buffaloes, dogs, cats, horses and birds among others.
“These voiceless creatures can’t express their pain, so it’s our duty to help them in any way we can. Before I saw the injured cow in our village in Kaunke Kalan, Ludhiana, my family and I were planning to move abroad. But after that incident, I decided to stay back and dedicate my life to this cause.”
Hira Animals Hospital is also home to cows and other animals who are permanently challenged from accidents and need long-term medical care. Here, all their medical needs are taken care of by the team who work tirelessly to give these animals the life they deserve.
However, The Pandemic Affected Them Greatly
Kulwinder Singh, like many others, struggled to keep the hospital going amid the pandemic. So far they had sustained due to the generosity of their frequent monthly donors, but with lockdowns, job losses and countless Covid-19 cases, all of this stopped. Kulwinder had no other option but to take a loan.
“I had to borrow money to ensure these animals are taken care of and our staff salaries are paid. It was a difficult time. We struggled a lot for 5-6 months. At that point, we didn’t know how we could continue helping these animals.”
However, while things have slowly started to look up at Hira Animals Hospital, their struggles aren’t over yet.
Your Support Can Save Injured Cows
Kulwinder Singh now needs your support to get medicines and fodder for cows and other animals at Hira Animals Hospital so that they can continue their work in rescue and rehabilitation. These medicines and fodder will help these gentle animals remain healthy and give them a better life.
“They have seen a lot of pain and suffering because of us humans, and now it’s our responsibility to ensure they are safe, protected and healthy.”
Your contribution will help thousands of cows survive.
