American by Birth, Brijwasi At Heart—Help Nandulal Joshi Save 300+ Cows

Feel free to ask Campaigner for a new update on this Fundraiser.

    Project

When you step into Nandulal Joshi’s gaushala in Vrindavan, you’re met with the peaceful eyes of hundreds of cows, finally at home—safe from hunger, pain, and abandonment. More than 300 cows live here, knowing love and care, thanks to a man who considers them his family.

Nandulal, born in America but “100% Brijwasi at heart,” has dedicated his life to giving these gentle creatures a second chance.

“I live for these cows. Once they stop giving milk, people abandon them—some break their legs, and others throw acid on them. No gaumata deserves that. I’ve made it my mission to give them a life filled with love,” - Nandulal Joshi.

    How it all started

For Nandulal Joshi, caring for cows is not just a task—it’s a sacred promise. Inspired by his guru, Kurma Rupa Prabhu, Nandulal works tirelessly to end the silent suffering of these gentle creatures.

Kurma Rupa Prabhu, born to Mexican parents and raised in New York, found his purpose through an unexpected journey. He joined the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and eventually moved to Madhuvana Colony in Vrindavan, where he began caring for abandoned and injured cows. Until his passing in 2015, Prabhuji fed, healed, and sheltered every cow that came his way, giving them love in a world that had forgotten them.

Today, Nandulal Joshi carries forward his teacher’s legacy with the same dedication and compassion. Over 300 cows and bulls now find safety and love under his care—a second chance at life. They arrive with broken legs, open wounds, or signs of abuse.

At the gaushala, the cows are fed hay, grass, and flour. Injured ones receive medical care, and all are given a home where they can heal—both physically and emotionally. For Nandulal, this is not just about feeding animals; it’s about restoring their dignity. His gaushala stands as a sanctuary of love, where each cow learns what it feels like to be cared for again

    How you can help

The gaushala needs urgent support. Years of sun and rain have damaged the sheds where the cows rest. Some structures need urgent repairs, while new shelters must be built to give these animals a safe space. The cows require regular care—some need medicines, and all need daily fodder. But despite their best efforts, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to meet the growing needs of the gaushala.

These animals have no one else but us,” says Nandulal. “If we can’t take care of them, they’ll be forced back onto the streets or into slaughterhouses. That’s a fate we refuse to accept. But we can’t do this alone anymore. We need your support—every small contribution can make a big difference.”

With your help, the gaushala can repair the sheds, provide food, and offer medical care to the cows who depend on it for survival. Together, we can ensure that no cow is left to suffer or fend for itself on the streets.

About the organization: Founded by Kurma Rupa Prabhu in 1999, and now run by Nandulal Joshi, one of his foremost disciples, this sanctuary in Vrindavan is home to 250+ rescued cows and bulls. Here, abandoned and injured animals receive hay, fresh grass, medical care, and a safe space to heal and live in peace—far from the hardships of the streets
