This Young Girl In U.P. Has Saved 300+ Stray Dogs From Cruelty, Support Her Mission

    Project

This is the story of a young woman’s determination that led her to build a haven for hundreds of voiceless animals four years ago amidst the bustling streets and vibrant culture of Varanasi. We are talking about the Pashudhara Jeevrakshak Foundation started by Himanshi Pathak who has become a lifeline for 150 strays in her care. Himanshi and her team are involved in regular rescues and are a dedicated force for the sick, injured, and abandoned animals in need.

Himanshi couldn’t turn a blind eye to the sufferings of these helpless animals

Looking back, Himanshi thinks that her pet dog, Julie, has been her biggest inspiration.

“I used to take her for walks every day and that’s when I saw the strays eating from the garbage dump or suffering in the extreme weather. All I could think about was how Julie enjoyed a warm bed, and proper food and was showered with lots of love while these babies had nothing. I knew I had to do something for them,” - Himanshi Pathak.

But it was not easy. Her family wasn’t very supportive in the early days and Himanshi recalls how she used to feed the strays and look after the injured all the while hiding her big secret from her parents. However, soon, her number of rescues increased and so did the strays she fed.

“I had no choice but to tell my father. It was difficult for him to understand my passion but when he saw my love for these innocent beings and how I couldn’t even concentrate on my studies when I heard a street dog cry out of hunger, he gave in,” - Himanshi smiles happily.

Now Mr. Pathak bears a large chunk of the feeding expenses of the 300+ dogs Himanshi feeds every day. During the summer months, she puts out big bowls of water and distributes blankets and cozy beds during winter. Together with friends, family, and a dedicated team, she is juggling her B.Sc and looking after hundreds of old, sick, injured, and abandoned animals.

“Speeding cars run over little pups, people beat them up mercilessly. Sometimes, they lose the function of their limbs and sometimes, I have seen them go blind. These animals don’t deserve to suffer like this. I want to work for them all my life.”

This young changemaker has rescued over 300 animals - help her save many more lives

In the last 4 years, Himanshi’s work has increased exponentially. People have started noticing her and she gets regular rescue calls. And she makes a point to not miss a single one of them. She wakes up early, feeds her strays, takes care of the dogs in her shelter, and then rushes to the rescues. As she fastens her helmet, stacks the food containers, and kickstarts her scooty, you’ll know she is a woman on a mission!

“With the number of dogs increasing, it’s becoming difficult for me to manage on my own. I want to give them the best care but it’s expensive. I need your help to continue this work, your donations will help us immensely.”

Donate groceries, animal food, and hygiene products to the Jeevrakshak Foundation and support Himanshi’s mission.
