Building a Haven of Hope: A Mission to Rescue and Heal Stray Dogs
Project
Three years ago, amidst the darkness of the COVID-19 lockdown, our journey at Voiceless Voice Foundation began with a simple yet profound act of compassion: feeding a couple of stray dogs near our home. Little did we know that this small gesture of kindness would spark something extraordinary. Those two dogs soon multiplied, and as days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, our responsibility grew. Dozens of strays turned into hundreds, all looking to us for the safety and sustenance they desperately needed. Determined to help, we transformed our humble backyard into a makeshift shelter. What started as a small initiative became a lifeline for animals with nowhere else to turn.
Today, we are a sanctuary for over 350 dogs. These dogs—once homeless, starving, and in pain—now receive the love, care, and protection they deserve. But our mission extends far beyond the walls of our shelter. Every single day, the Voiceless Voice Foundation provides over 1,600 meals to stray animals struggling on the harsh streets. These are animals who, in many cases, have never known a kind touch, and who fight daily to survive against hunger, disease, and human cruelty.
The suffering of stray dogs is a grim reality in India, where an estimated 35 million strays roam the streets. They face unbearable hardships—starvation, disease, and injury. With little access to food, many are reduced to scavenging through garbage and consuming plastic and other harmful materials. Nearly 85% of stray dogs suffer from malnutrition, while diseases like parvovirus and distemper run rampant, claiming countless lives.
The situation is even more dire when it comes to accidents. Each year, around 20,000 stray dogs are injured or killed by vehicles, leaving thousands more limping through life with untreated wounds and broken bones. Additionally, cruelty cases against strays have risen significantly, with many dogs becoming victims of brutal attacks—either out of fear or frustration.
It is this profound suffering that fuels our mission. None of what we’ve achieved would have been possible without the unwavering support of kind-hearted individuals like you. Your generosity has been our driving force, and for that, we are immensely grateful. However, as our work grows, so too do our challenges. Our current shelter has been operating beyond its capacity for some time now, bursting at the seams as more dogs continue to arrive each day. This is why we’ve made the bold decision to expand.
We’ve recently purchased 2.5 acres of land to build a new shelter. This sanctuary will house over 700 dogs, providing them with not only safety but also the medical attention they so desperately need. The new shelter will include a fully operational multispecialty veterinary facility—the first of its kind in our city. With this addition, we won’t just be offering a home to these animals but also comprehensive medical care. Whether it’s treatment for wounds, vaccinations, or surgery, these animals will receive the quality care they deserve.
But to bring this vision to life, we need your help. Our journey, as inspiring as it is, cannot continue without your support. That’s why we humbly ask for your contribution to our fundraiser. No donation is too small—every single rupee makes a tangible difference in the lives of these voiceless souls.
Your generosity can propel us forward, ensuring that we can continue to protect, feed, and care for these animals. Together, we can build a future where no dog is left to suffer on the streets, where every stray knows the warmth of a loving touch, the relief of a full belly, and the hope of a better tomorrow.
