Over 2000 Injured Wildlife Have Been Rescued By This Mechanic From Rajasthan, Support Him

It is often said that all heroes don’t wear capes and Peera Ram Bishnoi is one such hero who has been rescuing more than 2000 injured wildlife in the last 10 years. Peera Ram belongs to the Bishnoi community who are known to have immense love for nature. History has shown us how 300 Bishnois under the stewardship of Amrita Devi Bishnoi embraced death but didn’t let the king of Marwar chop down the Khejri trees. One notices the same zeal and gusto in Peera Ram who is wholeheartedly in the job of animal rescue.  

I saw a baby deer suckling on its dead mother, the sight was unbearable, I knew I had to do something  

Peera Ram had left his job as CRPF and came back to his village, he had a small puncture repair shop on the National Highway. That’s how he made his livelihood. This was when I saw some of the most horrible accidents these wild animals suffered because of speeding bikes and cars. 

“I once saw a severely hurt chinkara dragging itself across the road before collapsing. I saw it gasp for breath, cry in pain for help. I decided to take it to the veterinary hospital and get him treated. I have seen the painful sight of a baby deer suckling on its dead mother who was just run over. These sights stayed with me and I was determined to help these innocent creatures,”  - Peera Ram, Founder, Bishnoi Wildlife Rescue And Rehabilitation.  

And thus started his journey of rescuing animals in critical state by giving them the care and love they need in his own home. In the last 10 years, he has rescued many deers, chinkaras, nilgais, peacocks, rabbits, monkeys etc. His entire family supports him in this endeavour. 

“I have got death threats, hunters and poachers have tried to stop me. But with the support of the Forest Department, I have been able to continue my work. I seek donations from people and arrange for food, medicines and even an ambulance for the animals. My only desire is to see them happy and healthy.”
