Rocky, a friendly dog who greeted everyone with his wagging tail, lived on the streets of Delhi. Even though passersby would occasionally give him a few biscuits or stop to pet him, life was not easy for him, especially during the harsh winters. One winter, the cold was particularly severe, and Rocky found himself struggling to find food and shelter. He often went to bed hungry and cold and started getting sicker by the day. It was then that a group of kind-hearted humans noticed Rocky's plight and decided to help him. They started by providing him with warm blankets and food, and soon, Rocky's health began to improve. He had a newfound sense of hope. Today, Rocky is healthy and happy.

But as winters approach, thousands of dogs like Rocky are left vulnerable once more. These innocent beings rely on the kindness of us humans to make it through the bitter cold.

As Winter Approaches, Their Health & Safety Are At Risk

Neglect, abandonment, illness, abuse - stray animals are subject to all of these atrocities and more. Harsh weather and the coldwave only make their plight worse.

During winters in India, stray dogs face numerous challenges that put their health and safety at risk. With no warm shelter to protect them from the harsh weather conditions, these animals are often left to fend for themselves in the freezing cold. They are more susceptible to illnesses, hypothermia, and frostbite, and are forced to scavenge for food and water amidst the scarcity of these resources. This also leads to malnutrition and dehydration, making these animals even more vulnerable to infections.

All these voiceless animals want is some warmth, love, and care. This winter, let’s come together to keep them safe and healthy.

The safety and protection of animals has always been an important cause at Donatekart, and this winter, along with our on-ground NGO partners, we hope to reach out to many more dogs to help them survive the cold. For this, the NGOs need your support to get dog coats and food, so that they’re not only safe and warm but also well-fed during these months.

1. Daan India Foundation: Daan India Foundation was created to care for abandoned dogs, cows, and people in need. During COVID-19, many pets were left on the streets as families struggled, and stray animals went hungry without feeders to help them. The foundation stepped in to rescue and shelter as many animals as possible, ensuring they had food and warmth. This journey inspired a mission of compassion—to protect and care for the most vulnerable. 2. House Of Stray Animals: House of Stray Animals is an animal shelter and a dispensary that has been actively working towards the welfare of street animals in Noida for the past 15 years. The organization is run by Sanjay Mahapatra, who is a passionate animal lover and has dedicated his life to this noble cause. The shelter provides a safe haven for stray animals and offers medical assistance to those in need. House of Stray Animals has been able to rescue and provide care to countless animals over the years.
