India is home to 62 million visually impaired people, with a Braille literacy rate of less than 1%. Braille literacy is essential for the education, employability, and independence of blind individuals. At Shri Guru Govind Singh Nivasi Andh Vidhyalaya in Dhanegao, Nanded, Maharashtra, visually impaired students from remote tribal areas have received education for the past 58 years. Currently, the school supports 100 blind students, teaching common subjects, music, and sports using traditional methods.

Both teachers and students face significant challenges in teaching and learning Braille. The current methods involve one-on-one hand-holding using primitive tools like Braille slates, wooden blocks, marbles, and Braille charts. Aadhar Pratishthan (ABSP) aims to revolutionize this by introducing Annie Smart Class technology.

The Urgent Need for Braille Literacy in India

Among them, approximately 2 million children are between the ages of 3 and 15. The education infrastructure for these children is outdated and lacks access to modern educational technologies like digital and online learning, which are available to sighted students.

The current methods of teaching Braille rely heavily on age-old techniques requiring continuous one-on-one supervision. This results in an inefficient learning environment, slower learning outcomes, and higher dropout rates. A Solution with Annie Smart Class
