Help the Trans Community amidst Corona Outbreak and Stop their Suffering

CoronaVirus has spread across the globe infecting millions of lives. While some are struggling with their failing health, most out there are worried for survival. At the comfort of our homes, we are rather privileged to practice social distancing and self-quarantine. However, not everybody has that  luxury - especially the marginalised communities. The Transgender community are not considered as part of the society. They have often been pushed away, especially at times of crisis.

“As we waited in the queue for ration, they told us to leave as the ration was for the residents and not for the transgenders. It was a humiliating experience”, 

said Meghamma, a transgender. 

We are aware of the types of challenges that the transgender community face in society. Starting from lack of legal protection to poverty to harassment to violence. Their primary sources of income are wedding functions, baby showers and similar social events. With the lockdown in place and social events getting postponed, cancelled or restricted to respective homes, they are struggling with no source of income.

Mumbai is a city that is home to hundreds of poor transgenders. Their only means of survival has been snatched from them. They’re not privileged to stock up their cupboards with food. A large section of them don’t have any sort of savings or even a bank account. 

They need your help to survive this crisis. Help our NGO Partner Aarju Foundation serve the poor trans community of Mumbai. They wish to distribute essential grocery kits to these people every day. Your kind donation towards this cause can help stop the constant struggle of this community. A grocery kit can feed a family for up to a week.

The Aarju Foundation - Aarju Foundation (AF) is a non-profit organization registered under the charity commissionerate of Mumbai. Founded in the year 2005, it is the result of the dedication and endless efforts of a group of social workers and community activists. They aim at improving the socio-economic conditions of the most disadvantaged population, namely the s*xual minorities, marginalised women, children and the unemployed youth in both the rural and urban areas of Maharashtra.
